4H pig grits teeth and keeps throwing up

Postby momofthree » Wed Jul 23, 2008 6:19 pm

We have never seen this before. Our 4-H pig hasn't been the same since tag-in a couple of weeks ago. He is completely off feed, attempts to drink water but then grits teeth and then throws up all the water he just took in. Vet said he may have ulcer so give him prilosec but he can't keep anything down. He has lost a lot of weight. Does anybody have advice for us?

Since your vet thought it is an ulcer; you might try this. 10cc Maalox several times a day with prilosec or zantact, yogurt or probiotics, lower protein level of feed and mix in electrolytes in a mash form(very small amounts at first), electrolytes in water.

Had a boar with an ulcer, he wouldn't eat anything until I gave him warm oatmeal. Once he was eating I just put zantac in his oatmeal.
