Breeder Central

Briefly introduce yourself:
I’m Will Winter and a third generation WTX.  I live on the farm with my wife, Marisa, son Monster (Colter) and 2-1 (Sutton).  We operate Wintex with Dad.  We run 4.5 acres of showpig and purebred sows and roughly 30 boars.  We row crop farm and are starting to attempt to raise club calves (because we had free time).

Location: Lubbock, Texas

One word that best describes how you work: Fast paced

Current Mobile Device: The big iPhone

Current Computer: Dell (It’s red and black.)

Current Camera: I think it’s a Nikon with one of those soccer mom lenses.

First, tell us what you feel separates your business from other operations in the show pig business?
Brutal honesty, culling a high percentage of our sows every year, and naming boars.

What websites, apps or tools can’t you live without? Why?
ESPN, Rivals, GESTDATE, Weather Channel, The Pig Planet, social media stuff, Clash of Clans  (Each one for the obvious reasons.)

How do you keep your to-do list?
I work with my dad and my wife, and they keep me up-to-date on my to-do list. (The rest is in my head, for now.)

Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without and why? Hands-free, calling device that goes around my neck.

What do you listen to while you work?
Josh Abbott, WCG, Eminem, Aaron Watson, Snoop, Great Divide, and Merl

What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What’s your secret?  Never slow down. Never stop learning. Always try to evolve

What are you currently reading? This question.

How do you recharge?
Texas Tech Football, a ride through the cows with Marisa, or playing with Monster and 2-1.

What is your favorite and least-favorite chore?
Favorites: Planning matings and breeding
Least favorites: Doing write-ups for online sales, It seems like every pig ever sold is out of the best sow ever and nobody should be selling them! Ha!

How long does it take you to picture, sort and write a description for ONLY one pig in an online sale?
Picturing good ones takes less than a minute, and the average ones take forever!  The write ups all depend on the work day prior, what time of night and how many drinks I’ve had.

Describe your ideal customer.   Honest and hardworking

Fill in the blank: I’d love to see _________ answer these same questions.
Brad Mortenson

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t take life too seriously; you’ll never get out alive.
