Berkshire Pig Prices!

Postby Mary-Okie » Wed Mar 06, 2013 8:45 pm

Holy Cow!

Maybe I've just been out here on the East Coast a little too long now, but when did all these Berkshire pigs start averaging more than crossbreds!

I know there's a Berkshire Gold program, but didn't know I needed a stack of gold to get one bought!

They are not as screwed up as the crosses are for soundness, correctness of structure, etc when it comes to finding a boar. You can buy a berk with pretty good confidence that it will finish correct and that muscle is coming on at the same time.

Berks are awesome that's why! They were #3 in registrations 2012. They can compete at any level with any breed!

Most look like dark crosses to me. Especially the ones with the half belt!

Reminds me of several of the beef breeds out there today.

With the push to increase competitiveness across breeds and the overall desire to win, the berk registry seems to be more relaxed with the registration requirements ie white, swirls etc......on the flipside, there are breeders out there who make semi competitive hogs that can compete yet still maintain breed registration standards. One of my good friends recently had an entire litter of berks with swirls and he will sell them for classification shows only not papered deals.
Thanks,

I haven't noticed the ABA relaxing on any of the registration requirements.
