Slop feeding

Postby Swine7 » Sun Mar 24, 2013 2:51 pm

We bought a young pig and they told us to slop feed to gain weight but didn't give us any info on what to do. At what weight do you start to slop feed? And what do you use to slop? Any info would be great!

You can slop feed as young as several days old all the way to slaughter.

The goal is to keep the hog's face in the bowl and not have them waste good energy going from dry feed to water unless you are feeding them under the water nipple.

If you are feeding a grain feed, it helps to keep it in the bowl and not fly away if you had wind like we did yesterday.

And if you are feeding corn it helps to soften the corn up a little so the stomach doesn't waste to much energy breaking it down.
