weight gain help KGB?

Postby mathemjm » Sun Apr 28, 2013 11:36 am

I have a litter of Durocs that I need to make weight with by july 24th our fair weights are 240-300lbs however to be competitive i would like to be in the 265-280 range. These guys got off to a rough start with mom killing littermates at birth so they were bottle raised the whole way through. they were born feb 4th and currently weigh 65lbs. With only 87days to weigh in I currently have them on honor 709 in a free feeder. What suggestions as far as feed regimes or weight gain additives would anyone suggest these are flat awesome pigs their just behind they are a high roller x cherry bomb and i would really like to see them compete. Thanks for your suggestions.

They have to average at leat 2.30 lbs per day between now and weigh in. I have to tell you that is a lot. It's not impossible though.

Energy (calories) fuels every metabolic process including growth....especially growth. So adding supplements like HIgh Octane Power Fuel and High Octane Heavy Weight will help. I would begin with 4 oz each per day.

By the way, you can get pigs to grow faster by hand feeding as opposed to self feeding (at leat that's been my experience with my daughters' hogs), and you can put things in and out of the pigs' diet more easily.

They should be eating 4.5 to 5 lbs per day. After they reach 100 lbs 6 lbs per day should be enough if you are including the above supplements. When they get to 150 lbs increase each to 8 oz per day.

Send me an e-mail and I can send you back an article on increasing growth rate that will help you: kburg@landolakes.com
