Red and white boar

Postby Oldmanrivah » Thu Nov 25, 2010 12:30 am

I have a red and white belted gilt that I am going to raise. I of course want to breed her to red and white. The only red and white that I knew of was Coyote Ugly, so my question is, does anyone know of a boar on stud who is actually red and white?

PSSS had Affirmative Action in their spring catalog, but he isn't on their site now. I guess they must have gotten rid of him. Not sure where he went.

papparzi at lvs had red hair on him when i saw him at duncan so him bred to your red gilt should yield a litter of red pigs of some sort remember that the black spots could show up that is a seperate deal all together

your right botox will also but half the pigs will be black as he is only a red carrier and the black is dom there are alot of cross boars that are red carriers but papparzi will have all red pigs with a red sow i think that is what he is looking at also john huinker has a solid red fatal son that would work also

To Douglas, Black is NOT dominate over red, just so you know. Piggy

piggy i am not sure who told you that but black is dom over red that is why the hampshires breed to durocs to prove that they are pure if any pigs come out red then the hampshire is not pure and white is dom over black that is why york and landrace are bred to colored pigs (durocs or hamps) to prove purity if any pigs come out with solid color then the white breed is not pure blue or roan does not represent solid color hope this helps

Douglas I am not going to get into a Pi$$ing match with you over genetics, but you are wrong. IF a pure hamp carries the red gene and is bred to a sow with the red gene, or a duroc and the pigs come out red, there will be red pigs, ie. Red is dominate over black, It's not quite that simple, but i won't go into why here now. Piggy

piggy you are making my point for me the red gene needs to be on both sides there for it is not dom if it was it would only need to be on one side

Sorry folks, I didn't mean to get a fight started, just looking for a red and white boar.

OMR,

Even if you found that red and white boar there would be no sure way to assure the offspring would be red and white. You'll have just as good of a chance with any boar that has the red gene. I'm with Piggy, no need to get into it any further here. Some people you'll never convince.
