Lifestyle Sales and Shows Showpig News

Showpig enthusiasts are currently descending on Duncan, Oklahoma. For one week, Duncan transforms into the showpig prospect Mecca of the Southwest. Between the sifts, the sales and the deals to be made in the parking lot, you will find lots to do at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. Then, add the excitement of breeding stock shows sponsored by the National Swine Registry, Certified Pedigreed Swine and American Berkshire Association you might never want to leave.  But, if you’re looking for venues beyond the barn, Showpig.com’s team has you covered.

If you’re looking for a steak dinner, then your best choice is Wright’s Family Steakhouse. This place is a favorite for the locals. They will recommend a ribeye and a salad bar. If you haven’t had enough cobbler at the fairgrounds, then don’t hesitate to order some for dessert at Wright’s.

If you’re more in the mood for an American classic like hand-breaded chicken tenders and charbroiled hamburgers, Jonny’s at Oak Tree is a great choice. They pride themselves on making a diverse menu, and whipping up most of their favorites from scratch. The Jonny’s staff make their own chili, chicken salad, pinto beans and most of their salad dressings.

The go-to barbecue joint in town is Phipps Bar-B-Q. Phipps rustles up steaks, smoked ribs, hot links, brisket and sausage, all of which can be topped off by the “Phamous Phipps Sauce.” Their sides can nearly stand on their own. Don’t miss homemade potato salad, coleslaw, hickory smoked pinto beans and grilled butter bread.

La Fiesta is a great place if you’re craving Mexican food. According to Yelp, its owner recommends not leaving without having their white cheese dip and the Guacamole Mexicano appetizers. But, be sure to save some room. Some of La Fiesta’s special dinner platters are so robust they require two plates.

If you’ve already had your fill of fine dining, but want to get out of the barn, then head to the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center. This museum surprises visitors with an interactive, fun-filled and affordable experience. The crowning piece of the experience is a 3D movie about a cattle drive that lets visitors feel the rumble of a stampede and the wind that howls on the open prairie.

Last but not least, if the boots you packed weren’t made for walking, you can head to one of the two Western stores in town. Crutcher’s Western Wear is a 3rd generation family operated Western apparel store. The Crutcher’s crew prides themselves on providing many name brands fit for the whole family. Stockman’s the Cowboy Store has a little bit of everything Western. You’ll find boots, shoes, hats, ropes, clothes and jewelry that will help you shop until you drop.

The Showpig.com team hopes you have a great time in Duncan!
